Re: Championship 2024/25
Saturday was my wife's birthday so did not even bother asking for a pass. Missed the atmosphere but watching from afar it was a crazy match to end an amazing season. Given the downs in form as well as the ups under GR, I am staggered that had the season started when he joined we would have been in t...

Re: Championship 2024/25
What a performance from the team, fans, everybody that was against Sunderland. Appropriately, a Championship performance to confirm staying in the Championship. They really put out a strong team, but the way we went at them from the very start set the tone. Even when the intensity dropped towards th...

Re: Championship 2024/25
I still wonder during most matches where our goals will come from, other than corners, free kicks, and now long throws. That said, that is three 1-0 victories recently achieved via long throws and a strong defence. We did create more from open play against Wednesday than other matches recently - alb...

Re: Championship 2024/25
A couple of weeks on and I find myself irritated by how my concerns are still present. After the lack of ambition against a Derby side that could only offer physical combat as a solution to what we were offering, the lack of any sort of quality again Pompey was so depressing that for the first time ...

Re: Championship 2024/25
...or just Professor Yellow? Following Oxford never guarantees a smooth ride. Things are looking a lot better than they were, but nothing can be taken for granted. I guess the question is, can the wheels come off under GR as quickly as he put them on. Other teams are picking up, but the more there a...

Re: Championship 2024/25
And whatever the actual fee paid for the new striker, it seems likely that our record incoming transfer fee has been utterly smashed. Quite a commitment. Now just waiting to see if Negru goes into our 25-man squad, or heads out on loan to a League 1 side. I meant to say previously, as you have, I do...

Re: Championship 2024/25
Our first season in the 2nd division in a quarter of a century, performances up and down, results up and down, a loved manager sacked - and not a hint of a sniff of a suggestion of a comment. Are we pulling the plug on this forum? It appears to be in a deep coma. Just wondering.

Re: Championship 2024/25
One of the staging posts in judging performance is usually given as 10 games. Looking at your posts, Slappy, I get the distinct feeling that such is the financial gulf between teams in this division, 10 games is too soon. Pompey's opening fixtures have been really difficult. We have had a mixed bag ...

Re: Championship 2024/25
Many thanks. I was just about to start a thread about this! Actually I shall be getting to more games this season, because I am about to cease full-time employment via a MARS/sort-of-voluntary-redundancy scheme. This will give me the time and energy to get to midweek home games and more away games. ...

Re: Wem-Ber-Lee!
Really? 36 hours and no posting? Listening to some of the Bolton fans on the tube heading towards Wembley, I just kept thinking about one thing - that we were above Bolton in the 4-game, 6, 8, and 10 game form tables at the end of the season. Then I heard the stats about how few goals we had concede...

Re: play-off run in
I know that, theoretically, we could still make the play-offs with a draw or even a loss: https://www.oxfordmail.co.uk/sport/24268777.oxford-united-need-finish-league-one-play-offs/ But realistically, we need to win. Exeter are top of the 6-match form table (followed by Lincoln then Blackpool, as it...
Re: Gas-tly
Listening to Des afterwards, it seems that once we get wingers all will be well with the world. He certainly is backing himself into a corner on this, as this seems to be the only indication we get of his views on the team. And even if we get a replacement for Mills on the right, what about the rest...

Re: outcobbled, a short canvas, rammed, and not addicked
After the Wombles game, is Ed McG now our only remaining senior keeper for Saturday? Oh and I have heard today that Notts County fans are saying Luke Williams wants to take Ruben to Swansea. Then again, my colleague said that recently, the Notts rumour mill has been on hyperdrive, so there may be a...
